Boston Fern soil type

Hey everyone!

I recently repotted my boston fern and polka dot plant; however, when I watered them and let the water drain, the soil was quite soggy the next day. From some of the research I've done, it seems like this would likely harm them, but I'm not too sure. Looking at the composition of potting soil I used, it is sphagnum peat moss, composted forest products, and horticultural perlite.

Any insight on what the best action I should take would be very helpful! Thanks.
