I've found both glazed clay and non-glazed clay saucers at Wal-Mart. I think Michaels has non-glazed clay saucers too.

I don't buy saucers, too many plants. I use the plastic lids from Haagen Das ice cream containers (they used to be plastic, not sure if they still are). (Also work well as humidity trays when filled w/ pebbles or small rocks.)

For my smaller pots I use lids from the small, single serving ice creams, also plastic, have lasted for years. Guess you can tell I like ice cream.

One could probably find comparables using lids of smaller containers of cottage cheese or ricotta cheese. (Guess I'm just too cheap to spend any money on saucers.)

I was buying packs of look a like plastic saucers.
But I had many plastic lids saved for whatever.
Cheap and easy that's me!

If you have a Michael's nearby, they do sell tiny terra cotta pots and saucers. Any of your generic dollar store places tend to have a small variety of plastic trays as well. There's one that's a perfect size for setting on a windowsill, maybe 12"x4"?

Personally, I take a page out of the pirategirl's book and use take out container lids (my vice is not ice cream, but chinese food!).

OK, but for anyone else, just in case it's not obvious, the lid / saucers need to be plastic.

I say that cause here, in my neck of the woods (last I knew) some Chinese food containers & their lids were cardboard, so they'd soften & rot over time.

And if it IS obvious, oh well ;>)

Lids from jars of peanut butter work well, IME.

PG...I don't know what the other Karen is trying to tell us with that user name, but enterotoxigenic bacteria cause diarrhea, lol.

I use all sorts of plastic lids for saucers but am looking for something that looks nicer. I did finally find small clay pots today at Joann's. (No Michael's within 100 miles of here.) No luck with the plastic saucers or small glazed saucers yet.

Dottie, I totally forgot my favorite small dishes: ceramic sauce dishes from Chinatown! They do have several melamine versions as well, but I have the plants on the shelves in my window sitting in a variety of adorable rice bowls and sauce dishes. They're cheap if you get them at the Asian markets, but I'm not sure how that would translate online.

I second the peanut butter jar lids! We go through A LOT of peanut butter. We buy the 'natural' peanut butter. Skippy, usually. And the lids are brown so they dont look too bad under a pot. I would use them more often if I didnt have a lot of terra cotta saucers- I buy them for a dime or a quarter at the second-hand store.

I'd also suggest you checkout your local thrift stores (Salvation Army, GoodWill, et cetera).

Found Hubby a bonsai pot for $2 at the Salvation Army. Picked up a larger one for $2 too. I'm still in amazement, they are in perfect condition.
