I would go ahead and pot it up now, put it in a pot no bigger than 6" and mix perlite in your soil mix and it should do just fine for the next year, you'll definitely have to re-pot it next spring,keep soil moist but not wet. Others will give you alot more advice.

I agree to pot now. I've rooted leaves in gritty mix, but you need to keep it moist in a drip-tray or something. No misting, actual watering :-) That said, I use a mix like the 5-1-1 for rooting now, as it holds more moisture and is just as easy to re-pot when the time comes.

Thank you for the responses :) Good to know about the drip tray, I may try that next time. It was fun to do a little experimentation. Josh, I will have you know, you were my inspiration for pruning. I saw your post from way back when you lopped the whole top of your big tree off *gasp*!! I thought, "man, if he's got the guts to do that, surely I can trim a couple tiny branches" ha ha! I'm glad I did though, the new growth is coming in nicely. And I'm excited to have another pachira.

Incidentally, I just delivered that chopped top to my brother. The top had rooted and had grown about three feet tall! So it was time.

Last week, my Pachira's leaves burned badly....so I chopped it again! Took off about a foot, but just tossed the top this time.

3 feet?! Wow... I got mine about 6 years ago as a house warming present. It was about 6 inches tall then, and now it's only about 12 inches. It stayed in a state of suspended animation for so long, I thought it was supposed to stay that way...oops. How I managed to keep it alive so long I have no idea. It wasn't until I started doing research I realized how sad my poor tree must have been all that time. How long before your tree got such a thick trunk?
