Aloe Vera plant gone bad?

I have recently gotten into Aloe Vera plants. I am attaching a photo of two aloe vera plants. In the photo, the one on the right side I got about a couple of months ago and I can't remember exactly but I am sure it was a much brighter green color. But I started noticing it kept going duller and duller to the point that the leaves are now dark green. The one on the left is a new one I got about a couple of weeks ago for comparing the two in the present environment.

I water the plants once a week. Perhaps I could also get insight on how to water aloe vera properly. Currently I water with about 250ml tap water around the night time.

I was sure something was wrong with the older plant until today when I cut a leaf and turns out the gel is yellow in color as well as a foul odor like that of chicken poop.

Has my old aloe vera plant gone bad?

Another point to note, when I water the plant, I first gently pour the water into the soil then sprinkle through my hands onto the leafs of the plant since dust is an issue here and the leafs are also sometimes coated with dust.

Is it possible that it is getting sunburned? How is the drainage of the soil?

I assume it is quite warm where you are, sometimes they will turn brown when they are too cold, or too much water.

This is the photo from today after I cut a leaf off of the plant. Yellow gel as described above.

I have had this happen and it is usually because the roots are rotting from over-watering. Water isn't getting to the leaves and the plant is drying up. Time to throw that one away. Starting new ones is so easy that I never try to revive a sickly one.

When I water the plant, after a minute or two it flows out of the vase on to the flooring.

Usually I'd say water when the top few inches of soil are dry, which is a bit longer than every week, closer to every few weeks (for me at least). What kind of soil is it planted in, and is it well-draining soil? How about the pot?

I'd check to see how the roots are doing too. If the pot or soil doesn't drain well and/or if it is being overwatered, then root root can occur if they're sitting in water.

They are in clay pots. I got them from local nurseries here. That's how they keep plants.

I can't believe I used rotten aloe gel on an ant bite today. For now what I'll do is try to water the new plant at longer intervals than a week. Also I am not in the position to check how the roots are doing since I recently started with this plant and plants if at all being a beginner, so I'll leave that for now.

to be honest it looks like a type of aloe we had in Arizona and they did have this yellow inside. It is a yellow flowering one, and if you are doing the watering as you say it might be ok. The cut open leaf looks pretty healthy, and just like this other one. Since you got it awhile ago, you might have got this different type.

Also if you do have the true kind of Aloe vera (more gray) instead of the hybrid bright green version -- the yellow sap won't hurt you, it is healing but can leave a yellow residue on you. It is not harmful.
