Your plant is a golden pothos if I'm right. It can survive in water, but would grow better if planted in soil. Once you have roots on the cuttings, you can put them into a well-draining soil. When it has no roots it's no good to give fertilizer. Only fertilize when planted to soil and you see new growth.

Definitely should do better in soil and, as mentioned, it should be well drained soil.

One final point about pothos. Never never never let it dry out. ALMOST dried out is OK, but never completely. If it wilts it'll be set back badly. It can take a huge variation in light settings if you are careful with the water.

I have a pothos growing in a dark corner that is dry most of the time. It never wilts. I water it twice a month. It is kind of remarkable. It might as well be plastic.

I let my pothos grow in water for a few months after it outgrew its pot. After it was re-potted, it languished for months. It's finally starting to turn the corner and put out healthy growth. I too would suggest potting it in soil.
