The new roots

Wrap it back up in the sphagnum and set the whole root ball in a pot of fast draining soil.

Although with those small roots you can probably just set it in soil as it is.

Nice job getting it going. Meconostigma (Tree) philodendron often don't like to root from stems.

Well thank you. :-) Yes it gave me a bit of trouble. I had to battle mold and remove dead tissue more than once. It didnt grow roots until I informed it I was leaving it to its fate and set it on the windowsill to grow or die. I admit I assumed the latter, but Im glad I gave it the opportunity to surprise me!

Thanks! Yes, I am aware that it is a difficult plant to root, which is why I updated my post in the aroid forum, so that the next person with the same question has something to work off of. Unfortunately sometimes with plants it is a matter of luck. But it certainly does not hurt to start out on the right foot :-)

The roots are growing quickly. They grew 1/4 inch in one day. When i went to repot it, I had it in my hand and just decided to put it straight into the potting soil. I was afraid if I planted it with the sphagnum around the base it would hold too much moisture around the stem and possibly cause rot later. I pulled it out to check on the roots today, and they look great :-) the growing tip has not shriveled or darkened. It is still a healthy bright yellow. Looks like it is a success!

It's official :-) It just unfurled a new leaf.
