We had one that we were keeping outside and some critter helped themselves to about half of it. :(

But it still smelled good.

They are very slow to mature, even in the tropics.

Interesting that I should stumble on this.
As it just so happens,my housemate had thrown away the top to one earlier today and I cleaned it up and set it in a jar of water that just reaches the stub(may need a little more,we'll see).

A couple of questions if I may,..

1) Did you first root it in water or by some other method?
...wondering if I shouldn't just stick it in a terrarium and forget about it for a while. lol

2) Did you bag it with apples to get that fruit to set like you were suggesting in the older thread or did it do it on it's own without coaxing?

I just put them straight onto soil. Because they don't like it too wet the water might cause them to rot. They still need to get a good bit of growth, say a constant 18 months, before flowering. The apples will initiate flowering, but fruit size will diminish the earlier you do it.

Good way to do it is to allow the top to dry before planting in very pourous soil .About the only thing that will kill them is rot from too much water.
They do need a lot of light direct sun being best.. very easy to grow but getting high quality fruit can be tough

Oh hey guys,..thanks for the tips.

personally I'm not even in this for the fruit...just haven't done this in a million years. Always did it in water with a lot of failures,although sometimes it worked. Kinda figured there was a better way. I'm gonna go get that thing out of the water and let it dry out a bit before potting it and putting it outside.
