Croton stem cutting rooting in water

Hi,

I have a croton stem cutting in water. Roots have begun to form (about 5 roots in a cluster.. about half a centimeter long). I was wondering how many/how long the roots should be before planting it?

Oddly enough the cutting is also growing berries/flowering.. sorta. It was taken from the original plant after it started forming flower shoots a month ago, but then the stem started to wilt completely, the suspected reason being a weird growth on the main stem (looks like a large bulge in the wood) -- it seems the stem wasn't getting much water through, and going into flowering just drained it dry.. so this is from a rescue attempt! All the leaves fell off, but the flower stem is growing (though far far smaller than it should be).
