The roots that are forming now are "water roots", you might want to go ahead and move it to a moist pot of soil....

Dalar, I agree w/Webkat..place in moist soil..set in medium light (no direct sun) and then add plastic atop plant or make something that helps w/humidity. Crotons are high-humidity loving plants.
Sounds like your Croton was growing a seed..lucky you..Flowers and seed take nutrients from leaves..I believe a dose of fertilizer would help, and of course sunlight. Toni

Can these plants grow in water beads only

If you mean the jelly balls by the water beads, then my answer is yes. Though I grow mine in clay pellets (known as Hydroton of Leca). The transition was not easy, my croton lost all the leaves but one before putting out new growth, but now it is a happy fella with flowers!

Ok thanks. i like using the water beads. i found on the net that some people grow spider plant in the water beads but mine started to get root rot. Ill try the croton. thanks
