Flower? Root? Leaf?

Hi, I have been lurking for several months. Now finally came a point where I have a question regarding my "lucky bamboo". I am not getting any responses over under the bamboo section. I bought this on a clearance rack several years ago when it was half dead and about 4 inches tall. Since then I repotted it in some fast draining soil. It has since reached about 3-3 1/2 feet tall. The other day as I was admiring the growth, I noticed a little nodule growing from the side of one of the stalks. It is growing very slowly compared to the leaf growth. I am just curious as to what it may be. The first picture is the whole plant.

Well...

The bamboo forum is probably a little slow right now and also..."lucky bamboo" isn't actually a bamboo at all. Try researching it under the name "Dracaena braunii".

Hope that helps! :)

I'd expect it's the beginning of a side shoot, in the same way as they shoot when pruned. You'll soon see!

Here is a link that might be useful: Link to example pic

Yes, a side branch. Definitely looks lucky.

Took a few pics for you. Different Drac, same idea. The plant on the left used to be attached, used to be the top of the next pic...

That left a stump, which is growing 3 new tops.

View from the top. Your plant has decided to make a side branch without having its' top removed. Cool.

The name is Dracaena sanderiana asleep in the garden:-)

The shoot is a new stem forming

Thank you so much for all of this information!! I guess this Dracaena is quite happy! I am so glad to see it is still growing and wants to grow extra stems without being cut at all!

Thank you again! These forums are wonderful with such wonderful people!
