Horthornia?

I believe i have the very same haworthia. They can bounce back pretty easily.

I don't know the species, so what i know is just from experience, but i've found that mine dislikes more than an hour of direct sun. I've placed it in 4 hours of direct light before and in a few days the whole thing turned black, a pretty interesting black, but it seemed like a bad thing, turned green when put back in shade.

They like well draining soil. I let mine get bone dry before watering.

When i rescued it from a family member, i removed all dead/unsightly sections and just put it in the pot upright. Like those dried up leaves, assuming the stems are still alive, i would have removed only the dried up leaves and place the plant upright with the soil level close to the bottom most leaves. If that pot has no drain holes, i would repot into something that does.
