From your description, I wonder if you have a Maranta?

thankyou for your replies,i will try and post a pic ,i think you may be correct about a maranta ive googled pics and have seen the one i have,the labels at the garden centre must have got mixed up,ive noticed when the light starts to fade it lifts its leaves upwards

Shuffled tags, that does happen! Both Calathea and Maranta leaves can pray, so are both called prayer plant, and are in the same plant family. If that's all the label said, prayer plant, it was correct for either (hence the importance of the botanical name for ID purposes, then seeking the correct further info.) But, Calathea is a more upright entity, and Maranta is more like a ground cover. If your plant is Maranta, it *should* be leaning. Making flowers is a sign it's happy and healthy!
