The insecticides you mentioned aren't systemic and won't impact pests on the upper part of the plant unless you spray. Even then, you're likely to miss some pests using a contact insecticide. If you're going to use a soil drench in hopes of killing off the hitchhikers, you might want to consider imidicloprid drench, or a spray with Bayer Advanced 3-in-1 Insect, Mite, and Disease Control.

Make sure you don't get the product that has 3 ingredients, one of them being fertilizer, and that you read/follow label instructions carefully.
