Spider plants grow big quickly. That alone is enough to keep it from working. Get an air plant instead.

I like the way that looks, it can work with the spider for awhile before you'd have to change it to another baby spider, just know that you'll have to change the water & clean the pebbles weekly, I've had spider babies grow in water for months at a time.
