You would need to remove all the soil from the roots, wash them well so that there is not even tiny partials of soil left and set in the a basket type pot in LECA, Growstone, rockwool or another growing media that will not effect the chemistry of the fish water very much.

I wouldn't think that snails and shrimp would do very well if you planted it in something that lowered the PH and some fish wouldn't do very well if you changed the PH too far in either direction or changed it too quickly so the media needs to be as neutral as possible.

Then the basket can only be partially submerged in the water, maybe just a quarter to a third of the way in so the roots can be exposed to air.
