Pity purchase

The biggest lie I tell myself is: "I'm not going to buy any new plants for a few years because I don't have much room." Yeah. FAT CHANCE. I couldn't help it. Saved these two ficus benjaminas from a long slow death at walmart today. They're small, only about 8-9 inches tall. I've never even touched one of these before so I need advice. They need to be repotted for sure. Would it be okay to have them both sharing a larger pot? The plants are growing more like small bushes than trees. I want to trim some of the small lower branches off but now that I look close those smaller branches look like they are actually individual plants. I'll have to look at the roots and find out. What conditions do they like? how can I make them thrive?
