Not enough light, possibly root-rot.
I advise checking the roots, moving it into real sunlight.

I haven't been fertilizing. Doesn't Miraclegrow soil have fertilizer in it already? what kind of fertilizer do you recommend?

Should I re-pot? If the roots are rotting, do I let the roots dry out before I re-pot or chop them off?

You should check the roots, and if some of them have rotted, you can cut them off and replant in new soil/medium. Sticky residue makes me think of creepycrawlies of some sort, have a good look, use a magnifying glass if you have one.

The roots are not rotting and the soil was actually relatively dry. I have re-potted with new soil. Unfortunately I don't have a magnifying class and can't visibly see any bugs. Should I have only sprayed rubbing alcohol on it instead of my concoction of water/soap/alcohol? Things seemed to get much worse after I sprayed it...

Since lots of leaves have started to fall, I have cut some some stems off. The whole plant is practically infected.. should I just cut off all the old leaves?

Who knows, maybe your concoction is what damaged the leaves. Can't be sure.

As for the stickiness on the leaves / stems, sometimes that is simply normal guttation. Mine do it regularly and there is nothing wrong with my trees. You could just wipe it off with warm water and a cloth.

How many roots were there? Lots of healthy roots? Was it root-bound?

yes, lots of tiny roots. I didn't want to damage the roots so I didn't rub all the dirt off but it didn't smell funky and the chunk of dirt surrounding the roots wasn't soggy. should I have rubbed off all the dirt?
