The silvery one is an aluminum plant. The pink speckled one looks like a polka dot plant (pretty sure I can see "Hypoestes" on the tag). I've killed one of each of those in the past year, whoops!

I picked up a $1 African Violet at Lowe's too! Their plant clearance rack is one of the better ones.

Try giving Hypoestes more light and less water during winter, if interested in trying again. Trim off any stalks with blooms before bringing in. Then it's a more reasonable size, not dropping stuff on the floor, and given the message to make new basal growth.

In my experience African Violets don't like being in clay pots, it does something to those sensitive leaves. They all appear to be in decent shape so your investment is good! I'd put them in plastic azalea pots, they appreciate being a bit root bound.

Yes AVs can experience petiole rot from terracotta. Since I prefer terracotta for my houseplants, I cut airline tubing (in the pet section, fish stuff) and put it around the lip of the pot. Solves the problem. It bears mentioning that most who grow AVs grow in plastic, for this reason, as well as because they have so many AVs that terracotta becomes impractical- I have to water every other day on average (depending on the size of the pot. Babies get watered every day except when I am lazy. Whoops :-D) you can imagine how that can get tedious if you have 20 or move of them.
