Lucky bamboo in fish tank

Drakens

Hi, I've been growing a lucky bamboo dracaena in my fish tank for years now, not submerged like you usually see it in pet stores, but just so the roots are in the water and the leaves are in the air. It has done ok, it hasn't really thrived though. It isn't that deep dark green color you usually see it, sort of a light green. I was wondering if it is maybe getting too much fertilization from the fish water? I know they yellow when over fertilized. I'm not sure how to fix this other than maybe trying more frequent water changes. I've never grown one in just water before, so maybe is this normal?
