Wood chips are not the same as BARK chips. I don't see anything in the description that states that this product is nothing other than shredded wood. Only the bark is suitable for use as an amendment to a potting mix.

Tell your father, "Thanks, but no thanks." You are better off leaving it out altogether.

Visit the Container Forum where a few people search all over the place for the elusive pine bark fines. Some have posted pictures of it.

HD used to carry a product called Soil Conditioner that was made of pine bark fines. You don't want the nuggets.....too big.

Think you rhizo. I was thinking it wouldn't work but my dads a pain when it comes to telling him hes wrong. I can't count how many times he hasn't listened and bough something I couldn't use leaving me to have to go back out with mom to get it. *rolls eyes* lmao
I guess I'll just use it to fell a hole in the yard. lmao at least i don't have to just put it in the trash that way.

I am in canada and I have this problem too. It seems that you just can't get pine bark fines in some areas - not even under the name soil conditioner.

What I did, because I read it on this forum, was go to a pet store and buy Repti Bark, it is 100 fir bark. My plants seem much happier now.

I got the same brand but instead I bought the pine mulch. It has mostly bark and a little bit of heartwood and sapwood chips.

I just plucked out everything that wasn't bark, which was obvious due to colour difference. Also, the bark is much softer than the rest. I had to smash the larger pieces down to smaller bits.

I believe the bag of resealable pine fines should work. That is what I originally went to HD for, but my local store was out.
