cutting back Norfolk Island Pine

We just inherited a large pine from my late neighbor. While this tree is entirely too large for our small home, we would love to keep it as we were very close with its former care taker. I am pretty houseplant savvy, but only have one other tree, a ficus that is 3 feet tall. This trees is about 7' with a 5-6' wing span. Wondering if I can shorten the branches horizontally (cut the ends of, but leave the branches on the tree) so that we can move around it. Also wondering what to do when it gets closer to our 9' ceiling.
