| Hello :) Several of these were sitting on a table at church this morning. The owner has already gone back south for the winter so I can't ask any questions. Is this some kind of snake plant/mother in laws tongue/Sansevieria? I've never grown one before. It looks like it might have been a recent division of a larger plant. The soil is pretty wet and heavy, is this an ok time to repot? If it is it is poisonous to cats so it has to go up on a higher shelf with my pothos etc. - is north or east better? Water when dry? Thank you :)

| Yes it's a snake plant; don't know which exactly. Why are you eager to repot, due to the heavy mix you say they're in? I'd hold off on watering it for a while, give it bright indirect light or if you want to give it more light, increase the exposure gradually. If you change the mix one wants to make it porous & fast draining. I'd add a lot of pumice, or if you can't get that use perlite, to cactus & succulent mix. Try to avoid mixes w/ peat, they can become problematic. Less is more w/ these plants, they do best w/ a fair amount of neglect. There's a Sans. forum at GW if you'd like to take a look & read their care, but it's a pretty slow going forum. |

| Hi Pirate Girl, oops, I must have missed that forum as I scrolled through, will read. Yes, the soil looks like the bagged inexpensive outdoor soil, heavy, dense, wet, will use what you suggested. Less is more, love it :) Thanks! |
