| I bought this today at Home Depot. It didnt have any idenification. Its a small tree or bush. Its a pretty little plant, its about a ft tall. |

| Hi Polly...Very nice-looking China Doll. The botton plants are: Squill, common name, Leopard Lily, which is a bulb plant..The last is Aglaonema, common name, Chinese Evergreen.. All your plants are nice and healthy. Toni |

| Thanks toni. I have started making a book for myself with all the plant names and their care so I can keep track. LOL I a few plants now (not as much as many here do) I have around 36 The china doll, or chinese evergreen, I bought yesterday. I thought the foliage was so beautiful. I read that they are treated with a chemical to retard growth and after a year they start to grow. Hopefully I will remember to keep it pinched back so it doesnt become a HUGE tree. |

| Very helpful, Greenlarry. But if you're just uploading to Gardenweb, it's limited to one pic per post. Luckily about the time my free photo hosting account got filled to capacity, the new feature came online to just upload to GW. Now I admit, it's easier to just make 3 or 4 posts instead of uploading to a 3rd party host first. Don't know how Photobucket works, but I never could figure out how to organize already-uploaded pics into albums on Imageshack, so that attributed to my loss of interest in trying to keep using that although the pics are still there to show up in the old threads. These do grow pretty fast, growth retardant spray aside. This was just a few inches tall last summer (on the left, to the right is D. marginata): |

| You're welcome. Maybe you need some of that growth retardant spray, Polly? Wonder what that is? ...and if it might work on bills...? All I said about PB was that I've never used it. I've noticed lately from looking at other people's pics that a lot of the pics on there are smaller than what I'm used to seeing in the past, and many don't enlarge even if you click to enlarge them. Maybe one of you knows why? Uploads from phones? |

| you cant buy the spray they consider it a hazard. Figure that one out.They can put it on the plant to sell it to you, but you cant have it after because its a hazard. I tried to find the site I read it on, but I didnt have any luck. PB does make photos smaller and I think you can choose an even smaller picture size. That might be why some are smaller.I used PB for many years, I have just gotten lazy and prefer the shortest easiest way. LOL Would really be something if that spray worked on bills, |

Just wanted to answer a question Polly had that got kind of lost in the photo discussion. The China Doll is the first pic you sent, the Chinese Evergreen is the third - the large variegated leaves. |

| Interesting stuff, this spray. Almost as interesting as spray-on hair! Good catch, FW. URL = a web address, the string of stuff at the top of your browser that usually starts with http:// PB = we just got lazy about typing "Photo bucket." Until Gardenweb very recently included the upload feature for all forums, it was only available for a few forums, and then only for the initial post of a thread. So if one wanted to show their pics, it was necessary to have them stored somewhere in cyberspace first, then to paste the code for having the pic show up, which Larry showed a screen-shot of. Free and easy, but more time-consuming, so the new feature has been getting a lot of action. As you can tell, folks around here can't get enough plant porn, so hope you'll get bit by the sharing urge too sometime! If you ever do get stuck trying to "do pics" feel free to email me. I'd be happy to attempt to help. Basically though, if the pic is on your computer, you can include it in a discussion by clicking the browse button and selecting the pic. |

| I found the easiest off site photo storage for me was postimage.org. When I copy the code for photos I save it along with the photo in a folder for Gardenweb (or other forum). Then if I need to use it again I don't have to go back and log on to postiamge each time, unless I want to upload other images. It just seems to work easier than photobucket, flickr or other similar sites. Otherwise, single images I just upload straight onto Gardenweb. The Chinese Evergreen (sometimes Philippine Evergreen) is just called Aglaonema here. Normally in shades of green and grey, there's also some with coloured leaves, usually red mixed in. |

| Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that if one keeps photos in photobucket in the private album, then if clicked on by another person (after posted here for example), they will not 'open' album and will not enlarge. If kept in public album, after clicking on by another person, they will open in PB (larger size) & whole album could be viewed. To post multiple photos from PB (photo bucket), just select as many photos as necessary, then scroll down to bottom of the page (bottom left) and click on the arrow beside 'choose action'. Hope this helps...(clear as mud?) |

| Polly, just noticed your question to me. China Doll and Chinese Evergreen are not related. They're two different plants, different families. About keeping a notebook. Back in the late 70's I started a diary via a daily planner sold at drugstores, grocery stores, etc. Can't recall the exact year, guess some time in the 80's, I decided to add plant information. Ever hear of the magazine, Birds & Blooms? They have a yearly journal for 20.00. Might have gone up a couple dollars from last years price. Wish I started adding plant info from the start, but didn't think I'd have many plants. lol. Toni |

| oh Toni I wish I had too. Ive had plants as long as I have been married and that is almost 40 years. I started with a philo. My Grandmother and my mother always had house plants. But I think I have the most, I think the more you have the harder it gets to keep track of them.It would be amazing to be able to look back on 40 years and see what has come and gone,& what we still have . I used to subscribe to B&B a long time ago.Its a nice magazine. |
