My Syngonium has furry soil

I tried to get a picture but it really didn't come out. None of my other plants are having issues with fungus right now, although I tend to have issues with fungus regularly. I don't know what the deal is. It doesn't seem to matter how much or little I water. But this plant seems to be suffering from the fungus. The lower leaves are turning a rusty color. I'd really like to save it. What can I do? I have some copper fungicide spray that I used when it started but there was no effect.

I'd change the mix & start over from fresh mix before I'd start giving it chemicals. Am assuming its pot has a drainage hole, right?

I just re-read this & see you mention frequent fungus problems. I suggest you throw out ALL your mix & buy new, start from scratch.

Also, pls. reconsider your watering practices, fungus can be related to that. By the way, how do you know it's fungus & not mold or something like that?

Not adviseable to use chemicals if one isn't sure of what the actual problem is. Especially if you've got kids &/or pets.

From a scientific perspective, fungus and mold are basically the same thing. I haven't dealt with horticultural teminology. Are they treated differently?

I've had this trouble through many many bags of soil. It must be the watering. My pots do have drainage holes and I water until I see the saucers have water in them and then I wait to water again until the soil feels mostly dry.

RE: Syngonium

Should I go ahead and repot this plant even though I just repotted it not even a month ago? I have a brand new unopened bag of soil I could use. If I do, should I wash all the soil off the roots? Is there something I can use to treat it so the mold doesn't come back?

There are 3 types of fungus - saprophytic (decomposers), mutualistic (mycorrhizal), and pathogenic ( disease causing).

What is your potting mix composed of? Is there alot of organic matter present? Without seeing a picture or any more info, it sounds like you have some saprophytic fungus present that is just breaking down organic matter in the soil.

The only fungus that will hurt your plant is the pathogenic fungus.

If, like you say, you have fungus problems regularly and none of your plants are dead or in bad shape, then you don't have a pathogenic fungus problem (which would probalby have killed your plants very quickly).

Take care not to overwater.
