| I recently saw a book at Lowes on houseplants / container gardening. I wanted it...but it was $18. I cant ever see paying that for a book. So I do what I always do and went to Amazon to look up books on houseplants and the such...
I found a book called "The Encyclopedia of Houseplants". Want to know what I paid for it? 8 cents plus $4 shipping. My total came to $4.07

| I have a HUGE collection of houseplant books, plus quite a few of container gardening, succulents, orchids, and a few on basic gardening. I love collecting houseplant books besides collecting houseplants themselves...I go to second hand stores all the time to look for them. I find alot of houseplant books from the 1970's, but that's okay, I still love them. I have: I could look at them all day, I love reading. And I don't buy a brand new books unless it's one I know is really good and useful. Or else I buy them used because I just don't have the extra money to spend $20-40 on a brand new book. I usually find them used for under $5, I just hunt thrift/2nd hand stores, used book stores, and sometimes yard sales for books, and I find them ALL the time. And their's still quite a few houseplants books I really want. I also like checking books out of the libary to see if they're a book I really should buy and spend money on. Like I found one recently on weird and unusual plants, mostly houseplants, that I really want. Here's a picture of 'some' of my books- |

| At Lowe's I can take the $18 book over to the patio furnature area (When it has not been replaced with Christmas stuff.) and set there and read their $18 book for hours, then return it to the book shelf. Inter-library loan which has always been good in some few areas has sometimes gotten better. If you are anywhere west of the great plains states browse the Sunset Western Garden Book which may be found at Lowe's. |

| The most useful books I never expected...the house plant expert, books one and two, by D. G. Hessayon. The "go-to" reference for houseplants...foliage plants for decorating indoors, elbert and elbert. |

| I agree with strobiculate and greenlarry, the Houseplant expert is one of my favorite out of all my books, atleast the first one is (I don't own the 2nd one, but I am thinking of ordering it from Amazon). It has alot of plants, including some unusual and rare houseplants, where as other houseplant books just have the more basic houseplants. Also the binders called 'Success with Houseplants' is my other favorite, but they are harder to find (they've been out of print for a very long time). You have to look at 2nd hand stores and also Amazon (also sometimes ebay) has some, but it's really hard to find the whole collection (I'm still missing most of one binder). -fpt |

| Tiff, great price. Also, check the library. Maybe someone mentioned the library before..if so sorry. If you find a book, 'library,' you enjoy, and want to keep, go back to Amazon and look for a used copy. Who's the author of your new house plant book? Purple...ROFL..yes, I too am a Seinfeld fan. Yep, don't bring a book in the bathroom, it'll be marked. lol Flower Power...you didn't complete the plant book binders? Thankfully, I got all six. I really like the binders, there's a good number of sections about plants and ideas. Toni |

| I have a very old book on house plants that I 'acquired' from the school library many years ago. The illustrations are all line drawings and as a kid I coloured them in with felt tip pens. The book is called The Young Specialist Looks at Cacti and Indoor Plants, by B. Schonfelder and W. J. Fischer. Ive never come across it anywhere else, and its coming with me wherever I go! In those days brick is mentioned a lot in the compost mix! |

| THe book is: The Houseplant Encyclopedia. Maggie Stuckey I like it for a starter book. Lots of useful information in it for sure. I was looking at the Houseplant Expert on Amazon. I think it was noted as a best seller.... I love books. I could never get a kindle. I dont like the idea of them. I like the physical book, I like to make notes, I just like the history of a book. |

| Hopefulauthor- I've only been into collecting houseplants and houseplant books for a little over a year, so when Success with Houseplant's binders where out (I beleive they where by mail?) I didn't even know or care about them. So I've been forced to look for them at thrift/2nd hand stores. I've found most of them at a local Goodwill, and boy was I excited... -fpt |

| Tiff, I used to say that I would never like or use a Kindle, also. That was until my husband gave me one (my first one) . I soon realized that I didn't need to hold a book in my hand....I craved the reading experience, not the paper. That being said, I certainly enjoy having my many books around me (thousands). I used to collect books and texts on all kinds of horticultural topics, but am about topped out. The internet is an essential resource for me these days. Books are an essential tool for those learning about plants, I agree. I wish that I still had a good stash to share with some of you. (You can't have my signed copies.) I've been donating a large number of my reference books to high school hort. and science programs. Other books that I can bear to part with are being bundled off to shelters, halfway homes, and school libraries. But don't think about taking my Kindle Fire!

| My Mom really likes hers and I've never played with it but my son has been banned from it after spending a LOT of money downloading games and upgrades for games. She's called them to ask for help blocking that stuff but after 3-4 attempts, it keeps happening. Looks like they don't care (greedy,) are not competent walking her through it, or it's just not possible to keep him from charging things to the account. We're not sure and not very happy about it. Apparently you need the password to sign on and play, and it's as easy as knowing that password to charge things to the account. He's only 7, so has been given the benefit of the doubt that he doesn't understand the difference between signing on to play and doing something (within the SAME GAME) that causes charges on Mom's account. Not opening my wallet to these people. |

| Larry, I think most hp books pre-70's were drawings. I have a few oldies; a couple have actual black and white pics. Tiff, thought the book you have is one I found on Amazon several years ago..it's not..Mine is A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants.. FPT...When I first posted the binders here on Ebay, 'was it 9 yrs?' ppl were emailing, left and right, asking where I got them. lol. Check Ebay. Every so often ppl have these binders for sale. One woman emailed me about the binders. I told her to go to Ebay..FPT, she got all 6 books for 49.00!!!!! Excellent condition. I couldn't believe it. lol. Wow, C&S's and Foliage..the best parts..lol. Hope you locate them. I'm with Tiff about not buying Kindle. lol. Sorry folks. I love computers, but a book is much easier carrying around, and no need to push a buttom. And less money, too. I read everywhere..and I mean everywhere..Doc's office, while Waiting, before going to bed, in the yard, etc. Everywhere. Purple, guess I'm like George, too. lol. Toni |

| Ditto...many of the books I have in my Kindle library were free...or under $5.00. I confess to downloading a lot of (free) word and card games, too. Many times, I post to the GardenWeb from my Kindle Fire! It goes with me everywhere....it's a lot smaller and lighter than a book. |
