Since most 'house' plants are native to the tropics, I cant see why dracaena wouldn't do well IF given what they crave in a pot kept in a house environment......bright light, low light, average humidity, low humidity, infrequent watering and can stand up to abuse.

If they are given a place that is handy to be seen every day, then possible reclamation back to a pot, back to the house, would be possible.

I'd say, go for it......and aren't you lucky to be living in such wonderful weather.....albeit, in my opinion....might it be a little hum drum.

Is your location frost free?

Just make sure you give it lots of water.

I thought the corn plants like dry spells between watering?

You mentioned that it's hot and dry and the soil is sandy. Sandy soil doesn't retain water (or nutrients) very well so any water you add will be gone in short order.

Furthermore Dracaena Fragrance is not a semi-xerophyte like Dracaena Draco.

Here in the desert, we may have a few nights when temp drop below freezing for a few hours. Winter evening temp around 50F or so. Do you guys think dracaena fragran can make it?
