Great plant. That's typical growth. Re-pot next Spring/Summer. Get a container twice that size....you'll need it. Oh, and some sort of structure to help support will make moving this monster much easier.

You will need to give it something to climb.

Most folks will tell you to keep it under potted but I agree with Greenman that you should jump up the size if not double at least skip a few sizes going up but make sure to use and fast draining potting mix. Something like one third each; regular potting mix, an orchid mix and perlite, You want the soil to be damp but not soggy. There's a lot to read here on the subject.

These plants shoot out those roots, just train them down into the soil

Just my curious question. If one were to place the aerial root in the picture into a small pot with soil mix (while attached to the main plant) would it root and start shooting off leaves (making another plant) or would it just root but without leaves, just become an anchor for the main plant?

The aerial root would serve as an anchor for the plant.

If you cut the stem below that aerial root, it will sprout new stems and grow into a new plant. I've propagated my own plant that way lots of times. However, if you don't cut it off the main plant, I doubt that it would start sprouting new stems on its own.
