Broken Prayer Plant
| | |
Posted by cr491 (My Page) on Mon, Dec 5, 11 at 1:10
| So my girlfriend has a prayer plant (it came from a cutting I rooted for her!) that she accidentally damaged while trying to pull off a dead leaf.
Basically the whole top of the plant separated from the rest. It's currently sitting in water. The bottom has no leaves left.
My question is: Will the bottom stem & roots send up any new leaves?
Thanks! |

| As long as the plant was growing reasonably well & wasn't extremely weakened when the mishap occurred, it should have enough energy in reserve to push new foliage from dormant buds. Since growth slows during winter but doesn't stop, it might take a while for the plant to respond - as in 'measured in months instead of days'. During the wait, try to keep soil slightly damp - never wet. W/o foliage, the plant will exhibit significantly lower water demands, with over-watering being one of the potential problems you should make an effort to avoid. Al |
