What Chemicals? I would think that there would be some possible long term damage from either chlorine or bromine but that might not be too bad if the area is ventilated and can be opened up during nicer weather. Cleaning products may be a bigger risk if they get sprayed on the plants but they can be hosed off reasonably soon afterwards.

Otherwise they would thrive in the humid conditions near an indoor pool.

I'm sure that they would use whatever pool chemicals would best suit the plants but generally bromine through an autofeed dispenser is the choice for indoor pools. The indoor pool area will be very well ventilated but only has a few sliding screen doors to open up to the outside and then again only in the summer. There wouldn't be any other chemicals sprayed around.

I agree that aerosol chemicals should not be a problem. If plants vegin to suffer, then the humans had better stay away.

I don't have any advice to offer, but just wanted to say I've noticed very healthy looking plants in the indoor pool area of a hotel we were staying at. The plants certainly added a lot to the ambiance of the space.

Why not ask other people w/ pools & tropical plants (maybe ask the pool keepers)?

just like some people have allergies that range from mild to severe, and some people aren't really affected at all, some plants are more tolerant of certain stimuli and some are not.

in general, the more common houseplants are about as tolerant of anything you may choose to expose them to as anything. Some of the palms should also present little problem. I know from experience that ficus roots that grow into a 2% hydrogen peroxide bleach (little strange to see white roots an inch or so thick) but otherwise the plant shows no effect, at up to 15 years exposure.

depending on the chemicals used and concentration in atmosphere, in addition to plant selection, there may be a difference in performance over the long term.

Do you by any chance know how much light we're talking about? I've seen indoor pools almost as light as a greenhouse, and I've seen pools that have almost no light. Any choice re: plant selection has to factor in available light or use of full spectrum lighting.

it's almost a little odd, but I actually don't (or can't find relatively easily) a culture list that would be for a pool area.
