| I thought this third shoot was going to be a new frond... Nope, another flowering shoot!! Here is the first one. |

| Cool, obvious sign of growth! If they are on the same tree (assumption,) I don't think they can be both male and female, or am I confused? |

| If it's a Chamaedorea (which it looks like) it's only one sex per plant. |

| Mine trees are making balls, too. Now that I know to examine them, they are different. Tiff, I think yours is a female. The female flowers are more of a ball, and closer to the trunk in general. I think these are female flowers: |

| The male flowers are on a longer thing, and kind of come out of a sheath, the balls are much smaller. I think the following pics are males: |

| Hmm... didn't notice how different your 2 pics are until just now. I wonder if it's a hermaphrodite (where a dioecious plant makes both female and male flowers) presentation, see page 8, last paragraph. Your tree really looks like it's making both. |

| tifflj, when they bloom, please let us know if the flowers have a scent in the evening? I discovered this feature of the flowers on a palm I owned a few years ago, a parlour palm like yours. The palm we have now hasn't yet flowered and we are so curious! It produced a flowering stem which inexplicably damped off, about two years ago. Patience needed. |
