Favorite Plants in Hypertufa

I'm curious what your favorite hypertufa plants have been. I am especially interested in plants that can be grown from seed and will do well in a hypertufa container.

Pics always welcome!
Thanks!

I love to put Hens and chicks and variety of ground covers to hang over the sides.

I'm with plantman. Mini conifers make mini landscaping fun. Sedums come in so many varieties in shape and color that you can do a lot of experimenting with them. Semps are a given to do well. I've also got herbs and annuals that like well drained soil. Keep in mind as you tramp about your yard (and others) that unusual rocks and pieces of wood are also keys to creating intersting pots.

Thanks for the advice. I will try all of those. Can't wait till the weather cooperates!!!

I have daffodil bulbs sprouting up in a "tufa" pot that is also planted with sedum. (And has remained outside all winter) I just needed some place to stick the bulbs when I was rearranging the yard last year... I think lots of things will grow in hypertufa, depending on the size & shape of the pot/bowl.

I have used all of the above as well as saxifragas. There are so many different ones and so interesting. They bloom too. I ordered 6 new ones from WILD GINGER FARMS in Oregon and they all came with buds which was impressive. I will order from them again. Russian stonecrop is a fav but can be invasive. Just pull some out and throw it somewhere and it will grow there too. Thyme likes my pots and mini columbines are beautiful in spring. I propagate them from seed with success. Have fun!

I also love the combination of sedums and semps in hypertufa.

to cnetter: THE POTS ARE BEAUTIFUL! I feed my plants with fish emulsion once a month. What do you use?

I don't usually feed them anything. Just water once in a while and that's it.

I've been making a lot more hypertufa pots, but they're still curing so it'll be a while before they are planted.

I have been building miniature landscapes in my papercrete pots using several varieties of small plants.
