| These look wonderful! looks like you may have joined up two Elephant Ears in the middle to get this oblong shape? did you? love the low stand also. It's still to cold to uncover my birdbaths, but like you I'm very anxious. What's your next project? Wendy |

| Hi NMGIRL--do you ever have cracks develop with your large castings? If so, are you able to repair them? I have had several crack where the main vein is. |

| That looks really nice. I love leaf casting. Ive made several large and small ones and each one has turned out very nice. My son used one of my larger ones as part of his waterfall in his garden. I have not had any trouble with cracking so far. This year I hope to sell some as bird baths and fountains. I re-inforce them with fiberglass sheetrock tape and that seems to make them stronger. |

Tarol: I haven't had problems with cracks....yet. I do use fiberglass drywall/sheetrock tape on large castings. On large leaves I apply it in a criss cross pattern across the back of the leaf mortaring it in place. As to repair, are the cracks all the way through the casting or only on the surface? I'm guessing here that the thickness of the mortar at the main vein is insufficient to support the weight of the casting. I've read that you can make a cement slurry to fill in cracks and waterproof items, never tried it though. I do have great success using vinyl patch concrete for leafcastings. It does cost more the regular mortar mix but it turns out lovely leafcastings. Good luck! |
