Trough for water feature

Hello Everyone!

My husband and I recently built a farmhouse style home.

I've come up with a wild idea for a garden focal point...I would like to make a trough

as a water feature with maybe a wheelbarrow overflowing the water into it.

I want it to look like an old farm livestock water trough.

I was thinking 4'x5' or something along those lines.

I have never made a trough, not even a small one let alone something big

and has to hold water.

I know most people make these for planters, any idea how to

waterproof it??

Have I lost my mind?

Is this project something manageable or should I dash this dream?

Nope, you haven't lost your mind ..... yet. :-) You'll probably have to make something like that in place. There are many sites that have that kind of info from what I've seen. The recipes will be varied also. You might have to use two different mixes, one for the interior needing to hold water and the exterior for appearances. Just a matter of having everything planned well in advance. Do you have a drawing or sketch made to go by you can share to help with ideas? Good luck.

You can estimate the amount needed by placing the dry ingredients (aggregate - not the portland or the water) about 2/3 full in the mold, once you make it. Measure as you add the dry ingredients. Then you'll know how much portland to add.
