To obtain a leaf, I'd suggest hitting a farmers' market and asking someone to bring you a whole leaf. Alternatively, you could also grow a rhubarb plant. They are easy plants to grow ... at least here.

gunnera manicata is fast grower. With a Heavy mulch you can get it through. I know people in zone 5 who can get it through with protection. Rheums are equally as hardy and grow quickly too.
