Got Biopsy Results

nanagrandma

Results are not good, I have a rare cancer of the nasal passage related to the orafractory which affects sense of smell. Doing MRI on Thursday to get more results. doctor is recommending I go to University Hospital, where my case can be presented to a Panel of Doctors. Of course to get the ball rolling and to see where else cancer is my doctor is submitting my case to University of Irvine in California. Has not sunk in yet , yeah I am scared but the sweet doctor said to me "Turn it over to God" I knew he was more than good looking! And that is exactly what I am going to do, of course with my contolling personality (which God gave me) will do research and listen very carefully to all alternatives.

Thank You for being here, keep posting all your beautiful Garden Junk all that beauty makes me happy!! :)

    Oh Sylvia,

I am so sorry to hear about this. I know exactly how you are feeling. I pretty much was told the exact same thing this summer...but the difference is mine was a rare cancer in my kidneys. You really need to trust your doctor and turn everything over to God. You stressing over this will not help you at all. Let God carry it for you and just take it one day at a time. Enjoy every moment of every day. When you need support turn to those who care about you (your family, your friends, your GJ family, and anyone else who can help you through). I know that the path looks hard right now, and parts of it will be, but I made it through it, you will too. If you would like to have someone to talk to who truely understands, I am always here.

I hardly know what to say, Sylvia. Other than I'm glad you have the support of Micki here, its wonderful she's offered to be there for you after what she's gone thru. I know everyone is sending their love and prayers, I hope you can 'feel' them. We'll keep you surrounded with positive thoughts! Meanwhile, here is a little something I kept taped to my mirror for months when I needed a little extra something to get me thru a very bad time....

Sylvia...a repeat of everything said above...continued good thoughts and prayers coming your way.

Also want you to know that those "University" hospitals are so thorough and a God-send! I am an example of what they called a "walking miracle" because of the University of Iowa Hospital where I spent 2 mos. Also have a "rare" chronic illness and they figured out what it was and I have been back HOME now for 2-l/2 yrs. almost! I had never been hospitalized except for having kids.

So, I want to tell you that it is OK to be scared, and it is OK to get angry (sometimes) & the best advice I can share is what Smicker said, "turn to those who care about you (your family, your friends, your GJ family, and anyone else who can help you through. And the great gift of all, God will be with you! Your dr. had good advice! Jeanne S.

    Sylvia,

There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said by the good people on this forum, who are reaching out to you with love and prayers.

It appears you are getting the best of care, and that you have good doctors who will be evaluating your case and planning treatment. Keep the faith and trust in God. He will get you through this!

There is much power in prayer, and there certainly will be a bunch of those going out from the wonderful members of this forum!!

Take care and know we are here for you anytime!

    Love & prayers,

    Sylvia,

I am a 20 year leukemia survivor and I was told it was not good at UCLA. Three to six months at best. Freaked me to hell and back! As you can see I am still here driving everyone crazy.

If you have the options, check out Cancer Centers of America:

    http://www.cancercenter.com/

Also, the MD Anderson center in Houston is wonderful - though Houston is not.

    http://www.mdanderson.org

The reason I am still here is that I had Stem-Cell therapy in the UK in 1988/89. Still not legal here, but it worked.

Other stuff I would suggest, is get a GOOD therapist to talk to. Do it now and do if often.

And, as strange as it seems, I turned to a very high protein diet immediately - contrary to what was suggested. I eat a LOT of RED meat, fish, cheese, chicken, peanut butter and finish Every evening, 7 days a week, off with an 8 or 10 oz. Hershey chocolate bar.

I really hope that everything turns out ok for you!

    Thank You All
for all your prayers and encouragement!
This "CoCo" as I am calling it is Esthesioneuroblastoma
Yucky word as my GS would say!
Extremely rare 200 cases diagnosed worldwide
My son has found out that 100 of those cases were treated at Mayo. He is researching who the surgeon is?
It will require surgery, radiation and chemo!

Micki, I tried emailing you but email did not go thru, would you mind emailing me to make sure I have your correct email address. Mine is sylvia.avila@verizon.net

Karen, I love the "I will face my fear...I have added it to my email signature.

Kathy, how did you know I love "Bling" Glittery Hug is so cute!

Jeannespines, Thanks for reassurance about University Hospital, I am positively thinking I will be a Walking Miracle like you!

Brian, Thank You for websites and the benefit of your experience. My dear son is doing major research and I will give him this info, so far he has found out about Mayo!
PS As far as Big Brother is concerned go for it. I came out of retirement to help Middle School Children and it was a total blessings. These dear children still keep in contact with me. And so many children need someone to tell them they are "special"

Mayo is a very good place. I am originally from So. Dak. They handle all the difficult cases for S.Dak. At least that is where everyone I knew ended up! You want the most experienced people treating you & if the expense is too great to go there sometimes you can get your dr. out here to contact them & they will work with your dr. Most good drs welcome working with other experts. I've had couple of relatives have their cases handled like this, so certainly worth a try. Love, Hugs & prayers for you ! Jan

I am so amazed at the cancer treatment available today. It has to be a testament to God that so many people have contracted it and survived. Just look at the folks on this forum!

The bright side of having such a rare cancer is that specialists will be tripping all over themselves from all over the world to treat you while they study it. You will undoubtedly get the most amazing care no matter where you have it.

Good luck, it sounds like your son is doing a great job of researching treatment for it. And please keep us updated on your condition.

    Sylvia,

I want to tell you that my Dad is fighting lung cancer right now up in Alabama. He has not thrown up once!!!!!! This is a man who can not drink EGG NOG because he swears he will throw up.

The radiation was totally painless, chemo drips were his reading time. He is indeed tired but some days he feels like a million bucks!!!!(today he felt wonderful).

God hires the nurses that work in the offices he goes to. He has been so blessed by their special souls. Or could they be Angels Unaware???

He commented that the other patients there with him are more alive than EVER. It has changed their perspectives to be in "the fight". The actual process gives the patients almost a "Runner's High". I will tell you my dad is a different and a better man than ever.

Jesus said there would be tribulations in this world (Yes Lawd we know). He also promised that He has overcome the world. The way my Dad sees it, "WE WIN" period.

Susierose ~ your Dad will be in our thoughts and prayers too!

You're right about chemotherapy being much improved over the old days. And other treatment methods have improved as well. This will help make the patients more comfortable. Anything that helps with that is welcome!

Sylvia, I think of you so many times every day, and Susie, I sure hope your Dad does well with his treatment. ~tenderlee

Since bill died of cancer, I have been thro' all of the things (with him), chemo, radiation, etc.

Susie, your dad will be in my thoughts and prayers too! And I think sharing his story is a great comfort not just to nanagrandma but the rest of us who have know someone who is a cancer survivor and there is always that underlying fear that it will return. It sounds like treatment has come a long way! I remember when a friend had chemo years ago and to settle her stomach and gain an appetite they recommended she use marijuana. She said it was a godsend! lol! Nanagrandma, I hope your treatment is relatively problem free! You will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

    Hi Everyone.
I had a long day yesterday, so today my body must have needed sleep and rest because I slept most of the day!

I spoke to Mayo Dept. of Neurology and they were absolutely awesome. They advised me to get my films, medical records, hearing tests, etc. to them, I sent them out yesterday. Dr. Link (Mayo Neurologist) will read them and then I will get appointment to see him. I told his secretary, if surgery is ncessary I want it done then I don't want to come back for it. I feel confident and strong and I know that I am bathed in prayer and in the Lord's hands!

Oh by the way, got MRI results, the "CoCo" has not spread to the brain. Thank You God for answered prayer!!!!

I went out an got me Reader Digests Book of Jokes, Poetry Book, and People Mag.

I have been trying to lose weight but maybe the side affect of chemo will get me "skinny" AGAIN, LOL

And I am definitely going to try marijuana (POT) I was the one who watched every body else get HI, than I would watch them act silly and bump into things and laugh uproariously at nothing. I think I am old enough to give it a try LOL
It looked like a lot of fun bAck then, but I was a Catholic School Girl and I didn't want to make a bad confession. Because I would have surely F I B B E D!

Now to find a Dealer!!!! :)
