Are you an AAA member? I can't find my new Ca. tour book, maybe DS took it home with him but have a 1999 one so for motels you could see if Econo Lodge at 500 Kansas Ave.has a website, used to be $40 for 2 beds. Super 8 was $49 for 2. Holiday Inn Express was $65-80 for 2 p in 1 bed. So you could check for Modesto Holiday Inn Express,& the others & see if they are still there & look decent. There is a Modesto Convention and Visitors Center that might have a web site. Blue Diamond Almonds had a tasting room & video but were only open M-F McHenry Mansion tours used to be on sun & fri. McHenry Museum 1402 I St. was open T-Sun noon-4. That's all I have but I would check the city & they always have motels & stuff. or try Modesto Chamber of Commerce. Have Fun!! Jan

Thanks Jan, We don't have AAA, but in the past we've gotten the same discount just by asking for it. I looked up the hotel/motels on Google, which is great because you can tell what the area looks like. The prices now start at over $50, which is not bad. I looked up the mansion and it looks like a fun place to visit if it's open on Friday and the almond place should be open. We're driving up on the 99 and will probably stop at the Cafe 99, which someone on the internet said is good. It will be fun to see lots of farms, since there aren't any of size left here. Looks like there are about 8 TSs in Modesto, if they're still open. Thanks again, Linda

Hi Linda, I have Yahoo as my search engine so I just clicked on 1st site. it gave 1,2,3,4 stars -well 3 1/2 I think was highest. Might check on that to see as I just found the AAA book for 2008 & Modesto isn't in it any more (downturn in economy or AAA just charging too much) So good thing I kept the old book!! Anyway I've seen a couple of TV shows on dirty motels & hotels so I think I would go for little higher than the lowest price At least if you can get this site (I'll go back & see what it is called) you get some idea as some left comments on the places. Ok type in Yahoo for the search engine then type in "Modesto,Ca. Motels" & click on the www.expedia.com 1 . That should do it! Jan
