Hoping to get Plastered

*hiccup* !!!! Only kidding ! Here's my dillemma ..... I've had red Z Brick in this kitchen for 13 years now . I'm ready to throw up if I have to look at it much longer. I read you might as well give up even trying to remove it - your better off selling the house. Here's what I'd love to do ......

Idea #1 ) Paint it - but it'll still look like bricks tho. ugh .

Idea #2 ) Putting a skim coat of plaster over it to even out the surface ,then tile or mosaic over it ...

Idea #3 ) Really get "plastered" ! *evil laugh* . If any of you handy people know about plaster or mastick or Z Brick or walls in general , or have a dh that does ... I'd LOVE any advice I can get .

PS - the walls aren't drywall .... they're lath & plaster & built like a fortress.

PSS .. Maybe trying idea #3 will help me decide on number one or two ~~ ROFL ..

My parents had that brick as a wood stove surround and we decided the best thing to do was drywall over it....it does mean losing a bit of space and moving the trim, but it came out very well. Their walls were lathe and plaster too.

Good luck getting plastered too! ;-)

I have the same thing in my kitchen. It's used as the backsplash above the counters, stove and sink and goes the length of the wall (about 15 feet). It's terrible and I can't wait to get rid of it. It was here when we bought the place and a new kitchen isn't anywhere close to happening anytime soon. I was hoping to get those metal decorative ceiling tins and just putting them over the brick but, can you believe it!?... my husband likes the z brick. Well, we can always get plastered together!
