A Bob Update

luna_llena_feliz

Bob had a NAIL in his foot! Egads! He had surgery on it this afternoon. They had to cut off his big toe. Has anyone known someone without their big toe? I asked the nurse if he would be able to walk okay and she said with some therapy he should be able to get around. I never knew anyone without a big toe. I imagine it would be hard to keep your balance.

I am just about at my wit's end. He has to get some work done on the monstrosity of a house that he owns (but no one lives in right now because it is such a mess and in a bad neighborhood) before the end of the week so he doesn't get some whopping fines for building code violations. I am trying to coordinate the work on it, contact his attorney to go to court on Bob's behalf over this, work 40 hours a week and go to see him every night. I can't get anyone on the phone including Bob (the ringer doesn't work on his hospital phone). Then I have to worry that if I take too many days off of work, they will get rid of me.

You know when I am not hungry and food makes me sick that the world is about to end!

Needless to say, we could use all the prayers we can get.

Wow!! Sorry to hear that they took his big toe but you can do fine without 1. That is an old wife's tale! GF called tonight & uncle let stray cat they had been feeding in their house. They were eating popcorn & went to offer the cat some- it bit him. That was mon. His hand is triple it's normal size! So all kinds of strange things can happen. You will probably have to look at Bob's feet often as he apparently can't "feel" a nail in it. He probably stepped on loose board that had a nail sticking up & didn't even feel it. Hoping that it is all uphill from here!! Can't you find an out- of- work carpenter(suppose he would want too much money) how about a retired guy that's handy & would like a little work- ask your friends if they know someone, better than just getting someone out of paper. They sure ought to stop the fines & all for at least 30 days. Praying for speedy recovery & less stress & uneventful summer!!! Jan

Well this was certainly shock to all. I'm so sorry his big toe had to be amputated, thank goodness you dragged him to the doctor tho. He could have lost his whole foot from infection!

What you are dealing with is just mind-boggling. Wish there was a pill for Stress for you! Especially as that's the worst thing with your Fibromyalgia. My heart, and prayers, go out to you.

With the economy so bad, hope you can find some cheap workers to help with that house. Its easy here in Phx, but not sure about your area. Check Craigslist for handymen?

Take care of yourself, Kathy, we're all pulling for you and Bob to get thru this.
    hugs, Karen

Sorry to hear this...I've seen people without a big toe and they get around fine. He will learn to walk in therapy. Is there any chruches or Org. around that may help for free. God Bless you Luna...

Good grief!! I'm sitting here with my mouth hanging open...in disbelief!! You and Bob are getting it from all directions!! Amazing!!

Thankfully, Bob got medical attention when he did. Waiting any longer could have made things so much worse! Good for you, Kathy, for keeping after him to go!

I pray for Bob to heal well and get his sea legs back soon. Also for him to find someone to help get that house up to code.

I'm sitting here with my leg elevated due to an exceedingly painful ulcer on my foot...watching my house go to hell in a hand-basket. According to my podiatrist, it will be a long time healing. Being incapacitated is so depressing when there is so much that needs to be done. I can fully understand how difficult this is for Bob...and for you.

God bless you both. Things always seem to work out for the best in the long run. Keep the faith!

    OMG that is terrible.
    I will pray for you!
I don't know anyone without a big toe but I am sure he will be fine just like they said. It will take some getting use to but at least he has a foot to walk on right? Poor guy that must have been a terrible accident! I lost part of my middle finger to a lawn mower and it was a big adjustment but I deal with it fine now. Just takes time for things like that to work out! I am sure he will be fine! Watch out for infection. That is the big deal right now. I had a terrible infection! Not much you can do about it but if you see signs go straight to the doctor asap. Don't wait like I did!

Luna, Call the local Church in that neighborhood and explain everything. This could be a community project for a Church with compassion. Or the Eagle Scouts (older boyscouts) may come and help out. Call the local news channel and see if they have some pull with the CODE inspectors to postpone until Bob's foot is healed. That may make a good Human interest story. The local authorities will usually give you some slack if they are interviewed on TV.

I think loosing the big toe will prevent a person from running anymore. Bob will need to wear a type of safty shoe with hard thick soles. No more gym shoes at a construction site.

Oh Kathy I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles. It never rains but it pours is really true. You are doing so much! And poor Bob, what a difficult year its been for him so far. I hope that this is it and everything improves from now on.
    Thinking of you.

I am so sorry to hear about Bob! But, as the others have said, thank goodness you got him to the doctor! And yes, I've known a couple of people without big toes and after a little therapy, they've done just fine. I'll be thinking about both of you and keeping you in my prayers too! Have you tried calling your county or city attorney to see if there is anyone who could help with the housing fines? Some counties also have consumer advocates who can help.

Lots of hugs coming your way!

I went to see him today and he is doing pretty well except he happened to mention that the surgeon might have to cut off his foot! *sigh* So does anyone know anyone with a prosthetic foot? Bob said he wanted a peg leg like Captain Hook but I have the feeling the don't make those any more. lol

As for his white elephant of a house ... he has three young guys working on it but they seem to be like the three Stooges. Not the best but all he had in a pinch. We have paid them a pretty good chunk of money so far and now I have no way of keeping an eye on them. They should have finished up and had the building inspector out by now but they couldn't work today because their van wouldn't start.

There isn't much more to do on his house but I'm just worried that with the three Stooges working on it, it might not pass inspection when they are finally done. Then I'm kind of back to square one.

I called a friend of Bob's last night, crying, to ask him if he would go over to the house and keep an eye on the workers. I gave him the keys and Bob's cell phone so I could reach him. I didn't get in touch with the carpenter until this afternoon. Hopefully they can get it done tomorrow or Saturday and have the inspection done at the beginning of next week.

To make matters worse, the attorney that Bob hired to get him an extension on having the work done is a real $#&*@. I told him that he could contact Bob's doctor's office to get his medical records to show that Bob has been pretty much incapacitated until this spring and couldn't hire someone to do the work. He told me that the judge didn't care about Bob's medical problems, he wants to see the work completed. Just what I needed!

Now I'm waiting to hear back from the building inspector's office to see what Bob's options are so I can tell the attorney how he should proceed.

    Keep those prayers coming!

I saw Bob's missing toe tonight when they changed his dressing and almost puked! Thankfully the lighting in his room was kind of dim so he didn't notice that I turned a sickly shade of green. I won't sicken people with the details but if they can save his foot, it will be a miracle of science. He said the surgeon is going to have a specialist look at it on Monday to see if they can possibly save it. It looks like it is getting decent circulation and has shown signs of healing. The poor guy had to soak it in tub of benzoline(sp) and water tonight. He is such a brave and tough guy. I am happy when he is being a real smart aleck with the nurses because I know he is doing okay. And he has some great nurses too. They all seem to like him so much.

I called a supervisor over the court inspection. I was telling her that Bob had heart surgery, cancer surgery and a horrible lung infection last year. He was hospitalized all summer long and into the fall. Then in the fall he was recuperating from it all. I said he really didn't have time or the ability to hire someone to work on his house until this spring.

You know what she said? She said she would argue with that because there are people who will do outside house work in the winter. I don't know what kind of crack this woman is smoking but I don't see people working on a house in a foot of snow with their ladder in an icy alley. We had an early snowy and cold winter this year.

Then the attorney Bob hired to represent him in court for this whole boondoggle is a real nasty piece of work.

I never encountered such unfeeling, insensitive people in my entire life and trust me, I have met quite a few. These morons win the prize over Christopher Scarver the guy who killed serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in prison. He was always very polite to me when I worked with him.

I just hope the work gets done on Bob's house, he recovers quickly (or I get power of attorney to handle his affairs) and we can get rid of that horrible house!

Now I am worried about whether Bob will be able to stay in my apartment. There are $#&* stairs everywhere around here and no entrance that is close to the car that doesn't entail stairs.

Thank you all for letting me vent about this stuff. I have been trying very hard to not worry about it but there seems to be one thing after another. You all are so wonderful! Bless you all!

Luna, there seems a bit of hope on Bob's foot since you said signs of healing and circulation. So will latch my prayer wagon onto that and hope it helps. I can sort of imagine what you faced seeing it, we went thru something similar with Jason's hands. The surgeons thought they might have to amputate them at one point. his wife told them to try anything to save them. You don't want to know the details, but his hands were saved. Miracles certainly happen and prayers certainly help them to happen.

Too bad you can't fire that so called lawyer, he's not working "for" Bob it would seem. I know you two were already house hunting to get a yard and away from all those apt. stairs, I hope that soon will be a reality in your lives too. Time for some GOOD things in your life!

Please try to rest when you can, and keep your own strength up.
    hugs from the heart,
    Karen

Luna, You always are so bright and sharp and just down right smart. Bob should have you to take power of attorney because you would be efficient and make good decisions.

Let's pray that God has healing mercy for that foot. Bob needs to always be able to get lots of exercise to continue living with diabetese.
