Beautiful work! Rolled fondant?? I used to make wedding & shower cakes. Never used fondant tho. Didn't like royal icing either as people wanted to eat my decorations!! I have an idea your granddaughter was pretty thrilled with her cake!! Jan

Linda, the sock monkey is one of my favs too, as well as the Easter basket. I did it for my son's girlfriend this past Sept., she collects sock monkeys. By far the hardest one has been my son's life sized Fender Strat guitar cake. That one took some time.

Calamity, I love Duff, have you seen Cake Boss with Buddy Valastro? I think I like his work even better than Duff's.

Sunnyca, yes it's rolled fondant. I make my own from scratch, as well as the frosting and the cake. I'm terrified of Royal Icing, I am going to have to try that one day :)

Royal icing is the stuff that about broke Pres. Johnson's daughter's teeth, they couldn't even saw through the stuff, it is like cement & even if you favor it it doesn't taste very good. It does make nice very life like roses, but like I said people wanted to eat mine! I made them with buttercream & froze them & put them on the cake frozen. Also took a sheet cake as many men wanted 2nds, I made my cakes from scratch. Jan
