Mennonite Auction...a FUN Day!

Went to the Mennonite Country Auction and Sale today in Ritzville, Wasshington....such a fun family time! We do this every fall. Had INCREDIBLE food (barbecued chicken, homemade pie and homemade huckleberry ice cream!) Bought Mennonite flour, smoked bacon, and 18 pounds of Mennonite sausage! (We'll freeze it & have it throughout the year.) They also had a garage sale...bought tons of stuff. Then, they had an auction...the most AMAZING quilts! Carol is a quilter & we both were in awe. Carol got lots of ideas!

Sounds like a fun day! I would love to do those type of things more. We have a one at the local fairgrounds twice a year. But it always is on Sundays during church and we generally have other things going on afterwards. Wish they were an all weekend or Saturday thing.

I love the 30's roses quilt & the Carpeter's quilt, beautiful, lots of others I admire, those sharp points on stars are wonderful & so hard to do! Sounds like a great way to spend sat. with your family!! I don't think they ever did anything like that back home, they kept to themselves mostly. Must have been farmers. Came into town on fri. I think in horse & buggies. Show us what you got!! Jan

What gorgeous quilts but I bet they were costly! But I can see how they were great inspiration for Carol. I see one of the quilts was from Wisconsin Amish ladies. Around here the Amish are known for their furniture making. Sounds like it was a fun time. Never had huckleberry ice cream but the maple ice cream I had at our state fair was to-die-for. Now where are the pictures of the things you bought?

Okay, so I'm thinking that next summer when we're both off, the Kindreds should make a cross country trek to Washington state because the Willises NEED to share their favorite places with some east coast friends...what do you say?? ;-)

Carol is already planning the quilt she is going to make, inspired by one of the log cabin quilts we saw.

Well, I posted on this some days ago...cyberspace strikes again! (I must be forgetting to hit the "submit" button!) Ugh!

Anyway, what a beautiful day for you, Kirk & your family...looks like such fun ... & such beautiful artistic quilts ...I knew Carol would be getting a great idea! Because her quilts are stupendous!!! (that means, really, really gorgeous!) My Mom was a quilter...so I appreciate all the time & talent it takes. TFS your day! Can we join Marlene & her DH? Got room for a camper? LOL! Jeanne S.
