How AWESOME is that!? He looks like a young buck too. So, now do deer drop their antlers every year? We were just at Claim Jumpers tonight and wondering about moose antlers (all their resaurants chandeliers are made out of moose--or maybe they were elk antlers). I thought that they may be fake or real....but I don't know.

Yes, the deer shed them every year late January to early March. We love walking our property looking for them. I found some very small ones last year. Jules, take us out to Claim Jumpers! Sounds like our kind of place! :o) Bear Hugs! Kirk

The shed antlers are an important source of minerals for other wildlife and are quickly consumed. Rodents especially love them!

We didn't enjoy one deer this summer tho...as we got caught in a bad storm taking our GD home in Aug on the 4-lane & hit a deer with our new little Equinox...we'd only had 4 new vehicles in our lifetime (2 for each of us)...and it was just a few days old for us..thankfully, my DH kept everything under control & no one was hurt (except the deer)...poured rain & pitch black & very windy...we shortly exited the 4 lane & drove to an underpass...full of other vehicles...driveable...got new front end practically & all is good. Not my fav way to see a deer upclose...rather use my zoom lens, thank you very much! Jeanne S.

Thats is a great creature isnt it! None of those around here thank goodness they would eat my garden.
