Plastic Birdbath

I've had this cheap plastic birdbath for years now and a few days ago decided to give it some life. In the heat of the moment I bought stone textured spray paint and made it look much better. But after more research, which I should have done in the first place, I found that petroleum based spray paints can harm birds. Is there anyway I can put a clear non-toxic sealer in the bowl or is the only choice to strip it back down to the plastic?

How about setting another low bowl in side of it and putting the water in that.? Clear glass would look pretty or even saucer of a plant pot.
I'm pretty sure there are sealers that don't harm birds, but I don't know.

Hypertufa leaves used as bird baths are sometimes sprayed with paint but then coated with clear acrylic. I hope the acrylic spray is enough to protect the birds because I have made 3 of them.
