upcycling for the garden

I've spent all winter saving various egg containers for seed trays and cans and jars and bottles for interesting planting containers. I have a thing for glass and I love the idea of lavender and basil and other herbs in various glass containers of different width and height.

But I just had my best upcycling brainstorm.

I hate pre-packaged frozen meals because of their unhealthiness and for all of their extra plastic packaging, but circumstances recently found me purchasing a Healthy Choice Cafe Steamer which includes a small steamer basket that I think would be an awesome insert at the bottom of an appropriately sized pot to keep dirt from flowing out of the drain hole.

I wouldn't buy these specifically for the steamer basket, because everyone has broken pot chips for this exact purpose, but if you find yourself with one, consider keeping it out of the landfill and putting it in the bottom of your flower pot before you fill it with dirt.

:)
