Help! Algae Bricks

oldcrafty

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this questions, But maybe someone has an answer. Last year I laid a wide path, approximately 4 foot wide, beside my house using antique bricks. Little did I know that in the shaded area the green algae grows rampant and is VERY slick when wet or even damp. I have almost fallen several times. I bought a cheap low powered pressure washer which takes the algae off nicely but it is also damaging my bricks! It's only been about 3 months since I washed it and it desperately needs it again! Is there anything I can do to deter the growth of the algae? Don't have time to pressure it every 3 months and soon my bricks will be really messed up and pitted. Was hoping there would be something I could treat it with to deter the growth of the algae and not kill my surrounding plants and hurt the birds and squirrels that I feed.
