Hidden dragon - not any more.

I am often asked, "Where do all your ideas come from?"

Well sometimes it can be from the most accidental of sources.

In her post "Help! Can't find the dragonfly", Mommyandme mentioned  "window screen for wings." That was the missing ingredient for the completion of the dragon. So my thanks to Mommyandme for helping me finish "hidden dragon" who isnÂt hidden any more.

Calamity certainly open my eyes to color and her mosaics are absolutely GREAT. But I also want to thank all the creative people who cover bowling balls with those ½ round, glass beads for helping me put wings on this garden sculpture. I guess my point is: you never know what event will spark your creativity if your eyes are open, your mind is clear, and your ego is obscured (itÂs sort of a Zen thing), ha,ha, ha.

This multi-media unfinished Dragon is made from:

The body was once an auto jack.

I fashioned a wire cage from a fireplace screen

A cement and vermiculite mix made the surface for the beads

The crown behind the head was a bicycle gear.

The arms were shelf brackets and the claws were 8d nails

The hind legs were the legs from a set of bed rails

Two small pieces of rebar and 8d nails

The head:

Eye sockets came from a bicycle seat clamp

Back of the head was an office chair caster

The snout was part of an auto clutch throw-out assembly

The teeth were made from the anti-skid part of bicycle pedals

The Wings:

Made from bicycle handle bars, and the supports from scrap rods.

I covered the wing space with screen from a fireplace screen

After the screen covering I spread a cement mix:

1 part mortar clay

2 parts Portland cement

6 parts vermiculite

Then I glued the ½ round glass beads with DAP Acrylic Latex Adhesive Caulk plus silicone.

Grout (not yet) will be a slurry mix of (one to one) cement and fine sand

Thanks all,

Robert
