My DH made 2 of these for me this week, bought enough to make 5. I think the chain is too long, he's going to shorten it for me.

That is a great idea. Is this sorta like the bags that they plant flowers in?

Cindee, thanks, this is from the post by Amy about a week ago giving the link how to make them. I will find it and bump it up. The flowers are growing really fast and I'm hoping will cover the pipe soon. The next ones I make I will make the holes for the flowers a bit bigger, lol, that was a little hard pushing them in that small hole!

    Kudz that is really cool!
Would you post it again when flowers cover it?....I bet that's really going to be pretty.

thanks for bumping up the other post on how to make them(-: I think I have some black pvc pipe that big here but would need the caps. That is a great idea and more sturdy then the plastic bags.(-:

Wow, that is a really nice planter and I agree, I bet it holds up better than the plastic bag kind. You say for the next one, you will make the holes bigger - how big are the holes in this one? - and - how bigger are you going to make them.

The plastic bag one I made myself last year, the slits in it weren't big enough to get the pre-potted impatieas (sp?) in there and I had to cut the slits larger. Then when I watered it, the potting soil was washing out because the slits were too large. I should have inserted the plants from the top first and then poured in the extra potting soil - That's awkward though and it might break the plants.

    Hi All,

I saw the tut on how to make the planters, so thought I would
take it to the next level. Check this out and let me know
    what you think:

    Any feedback is appreciated.

Nice! Did you insert it into a log? Or glue bark to it?? LOL I can't tell,it's great, and that's what it looks like to me! Great job:)

Should I bump the post up again?

I made 1" holes to insert the plants in,like the directions said. But I thought maybe 1&1/2" might have been better, I broke a few plants getting them through the holes. Luckily the impatiens are pretty sturdy plants, and it's filling in nicely.

    Hi All,

Thanks for your input. The stuff on the pipe is hypertufa. I
posted a tutorial which you can visit below. And I did cut
1 1/2 in. holes. Will probably stuff moss in around the
plants when I get them in.

Welllllllllllllllll. Your admin has the other forum blocked,
claiming spam. Nonsense. If you do a google for hypertufa
    forums, you should find it.

Anyway, hypertufa is a mix of cement and peat moss. I put
hardware cloth over the pipe, then applied the mix.

    Thanks,

    Robb

    dixiesmom,

Just scroll up to the post that has a link beginning with
http---then copy and paste it into your browsers address box
and the pic should show up. I don't know why it didn't load
    into this page.
