I used half of a metal fence post pounded in the ground and wired my bike to it. It's the same rusty color as my bike, so you don't really notice it. This is an old homemade bicycle built for two and it weighs a ton.

I find short pieces of rebar (3 or 4 ft or so) handy for things like that, too. They are easy to pound into the ground and blend right in.
