Putting another two together

When one of my big clay pots broke after several years of freez-thaw cycles, leaving only the wide thick rim intact, I set the rim inside of a pot saucer, filled it soil, and planted a succulent garden in it.The whole thing sets on a big square clay drainage pipe, also scavenged from somewhere else. My parsimonious soul would not let me throw the pot pieces away! It made the perfect shallow pot!

That's smart thinking, with beautiful results! That pipe has a nice patina & goes so nicely with the lighter elements!!TFS Jan

What a clever save. And it looks adorable. We will need a picture when it fills out. TYFS

Sandy, I like your succulent garden pot. I have been thinking of doing something with succulents this year and you are proving to be an inspiration for me, Thank you for sharing, Marylee

Another one to share: this was an old, chipped birdbath that leaked. A few holes in the bottom for drainage, and I filled it with a sandy, gravelly potting mix and planted succulents in it several years ago. I have to pull out the sedum acre every year as it tends to take over, but I haven't touched it otherwise since. The sempervivums are just beginning to put on spring growth. In a few weeks they will be huge. This sits at the corner of the rock garden.

Sandy, That is so pretty. I want to plant my own succulent garden right now, but I have to wait for the weather to cooperate. We are going through a cold wet spell. The grass and weeds seem to love it. Marylee
