Mosaic Bowling Ball Finished

| I finally got my first mosaic garden piece done. I'm so thrilled I was doin the chicken dance out on the back porch. Then I saw the neighbors gathering again (they're concerned for me).
Anyhoo, Yeah I harvested roses for months off of old stuff because I saw Calamity Jane's mosaic cake and Kudzu's mosaic tea sets.
Hubs helped me with the dishes enough times to chip enough toile dishes for me to use. Never let a man with XXL hands do your dishes. lol
The greenery under the roses was a love gift from Crazy mosaics in Chicago.
The angel was a freecycle gift.
I made tons of mistakes AND I LIKED IT! Some were very obvious. But I'm OK with that as long as I finished and now I can get my bleeding fingers and knuckles to heal. lol Mosaics are not for whimps and I'm pretty whimpy about bo bo's.

No need to ask if you can borrow the idea. The idea is to inspire each other! Go for it. The angel could be switched out for a Fairy, animal, insect, ect. The roses seem to be everywhere I go lately (resales ect.) They are usually a little chipped but that just adds character. Textilejo- a blue one would be devine! One of those blue glass birds would be so cool on top.

It's BEAUTIFUL!!!!! And you were fretting a bit about trying mosaics.... HAHAHAHA You also found the most perfect base to highlight that BB. Excellent job! I have never found those roses here, though I have been able to find teeny one on things. But then the cost of those items are usually very high. And I love your plate! Plates with patterns like that here usually cost $5 a plate! And the colors are reminiscent of Jane's cake!

susieroses!!!! That is GORGEOUS!!! Now tell us more how you did it...Silicone II glue? What kind of grout? Are the leaves "ceramic?" The angel finishes it to perfection! It is just absolutely GORGEOUS!!! (oh, I said that already!) Glad you are back! TFS! Jeanne S.

Jeanne, I did use Silicone II. The grout that I used was a freebe from my Hub's garage. It was a premixed cream grout which is not reccommended by the regular mosaic artists on Garden Web. They suggest that we use sanded grout. I understand why!! Creme grout is hard to use. On the top of the ball I colored the grout dark green by mixing a little paint and grout in a baggie. (This was a real 'shoestring' project.) Thanks for everyone's encouragement and nice comments!!!

Susie, I'd say the cut fingers and bleeding knuckles were well worth it! That is a stunning ball. Love the colors you used and you were lucky to find so many pretty roses. Now I know why I have been collecting little birds and angels! ;^) And I want to do the chicken dance a la belly dancing too! How fun was that! Rather than watching you out of concern, I would have been dancing right along side you!

That is simply, truly, remarkably, without a doubt the most Beautifully Elegant garden decor EVER! Am I coming through here? You need to give classes. And I bet if you photographed it in different garden scenes, framed them in older victorian style picture frames, you could sell them! I'm lovin' it! Colleen
