Cobalt blue goes well with yellow, and sometimes with vivid orange. White shows it off nicely too. Maybe keeping that in mind will help you decide.

I always make sure the lower piece is turned upside down so you can put a post in it for support. Many people use copper pipe, but it is pretty expensive these days. I get a piece of rebar at the supply store for .65 cents and spray it gold. I usually use a skinny vase on the bottom and it looks really cute. This has stayed pretty sturdy in the ground too. Good luck these are fun to make. I even made one with a friends little girl today for her Mothers day gift. Turned out really cute and it was a fun crafty day for both of us.

My favorite totems are the ones I have on a pole. I use pvc conduit and paint it to look like copper with fusion paint. I hammer in some rebar about 20"-24" and slide the conduit over that. Works great. I've found that some vases and tooth pick holders fit the conduit perfectly, so I don't even have to glue the conduit to the totem.

I used a kitchen stained glass chandelier part as the base of my totem so it sits right on the ground. It's about two feet wide. I think my totem is about three feet high. If I can locate the darn pic of it in all of my photos, I'll post it later. I just can't remember what file it's in, sorry about that. Time for some Spring cleaning of the ole' computer too I guess!

Wow, lots of neat ideas, and those pics are awesome!! I can't wait to try it, got most pieces I need, now just gotta get the nerve up to start it. The cobalt glass is so pretty, and I would hate for it to fall and break into pieces! I've been collecting cobalt blue medicine, and perfume bottles in the past, so I already had a love for it. The pieces I'll be using for the totem are mostly vases found at the Salvation Army. Thanks for all the helpful tips.
