| Hi -- I'm thinking this might be the best forum to pose this question. lol!
I have an old-fashioned brown formica 2-level end table that was rescued from the trash and that I'd like to cover/change it to go with my new white wicker chairs (just ordered them... yay!). Any suggestions on how to cover the formica? can it be painted? or would it make sense to use contact paper to cover it??? |

| You can paint formica, but it will peel off sooner or later if you actually use the table. It would work fine on a porch and you can just consider it rustic. Plan to repaint as needed, maybe build up some layers of color so it looks intentional. I haven't used contact paper in a while, but in the past it didn't last very well either. Preparing the surface is very important. You can also check on the GW painting forum for more advice. I've attached a link to one site that explains the process to help you. |

| Thanks for the info and link, rock_oak_deer! It's in excellent condition and will remain well-protected on a covered porch. I don't think it will get much abuse. |

| We painted a formica counter top in our camper and it lasted for years. You could also put a piece of plexiglass over the painted top to help protect it even more. |

| I just did this exact same thing... I used Gripper, or I suppose Kilz would also work and a good quality latex paint and it has held up well. I used the same style table as you to go on my covered patio ....it never hurts to seal it with a polycrylic or some gloss sealant... good luck |

| heartzlink, love your WACKY table. party music - get the very best quality primer for this. Recommend going to a paint store rather than big box. |

| If it is very sturdy, you could consider mosaicking it! Check out the stained glass and mosaic forum for inspiration. Here is a link to one and another different table in the hot one below. Or search the word table at the SG&M forum. http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/stainedglass/msg0421242623653.htm l |
